PTE for US University Admissions

Over 1,000 US universities accept PTE Academic, including all 8 Ivy League schools, MIT, Stanford, Caltech, and most state university systems. PTE is now considered fully equivalent to TOEFL or IELTS for US admissions.

Section Requirements (Vary by University)

Many top universities specify minimum scores per section (e.g. "no section below 60").
Business schools (MBA) often require strong Speaking + Writing (65+).
STEM programs may waive section minimums if overall is high enough.

High-Bar Programs

Medical school admissions (MD): 79+ overall typical.
Law (JD): 76+ overall.
MBA top 10: 76+ overall.
PhD humanities: 79+ overall, with strong Writing.

F-1 Student Visa

The F-1 visa application itself doesn't require a specific PTE score — your I-20 form (issued by the university) handles English proficiency. The university's admission requirement IS effectively your visa requirement.

Sending Scores to US Universities

Pearson sends your score directly to chosen institutions for free at the time of booking.
Additional score reports cost a fee per institution.
Score validity: 2 years from test date.

Aim 5+ above minimum for buffer and competitive edge.
For top-50 schools, aim 70+ overall. Average admitted PTE for top-50 is around 70.
