GST on Indian Payments — How It's Calculated
18% GST on All Indian INR Payments
Every Indian payment in INR on ClearMyPTE includes 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST) as required by Indian tax law for digital education services. The GST shown at checkout is inclusive — there are no additional fees added later.
How GST Is Calculated
If your plan is priced at ₹1,180:
- Base price: ₹1,000
- GST (18%): ₹180
- You pay: ₹1,180
The breakdown is shown on the checkout page before you confirm payment, and again on the receipt emailed to you.
Wallet Credit Is the Base Amount Only
This is the most important rule to understand. When a payment lands in your ClearMyPTE wallet (e.g. from a referral bonus, a refund, or a top-up), the wallet balance is the base amount, excluding GST. We remit GST to the tax authority — it cannot be returned to your wallet.
Example: if you top up ₹1,180, your wallet credit is ₹1,000 (the GST portion of ₹180 is paid to the government).
When you later spend that ₹1,000 of wallet credit on a new plan, GST is calculated on the new plan's base price — wallet payments still attract GST at point of sale.
Invoice Generation
A tax-compliant GST invoice is generated automatically for every Indian payment and emailed to you within minutes. The invoice includes:
- ClearMyPTE GSTIN and registered address
- Your name and email (the invoice "bill-to")
- HSN/SAC code for online education services
- Base amount, CGST, SGST or IGST split, total
- Invoice number and date
You can re-download any past invoice from your profile under Billing & Receipts.
If You Need a Business GST Number on the Invoice
Add your company GSTIN in profile billing details before placing the order — invoices issued post-payment cannot be amended for GSTIN. Once added, every future invoice will show the GSTIN automatically.
For non-INR payments, GST does not apply — see multi-currency pricing. Browse plans on the pricing page.
