After the PTE Test — Score Release and Sending
Score Release Timeline
- Typical: 24–48 hours after the test.
- Sometimes faster: within 12 hours.
- Peak periods: may take up to 5 business days.
You'll get an email when your score is ready. The email links straight to your Pearson account login.
Reading Your Score Report
Your report shows:
- Overall score — the headline number on the 0–90 scale.
- 4 Communicative Skills: Speaking, Writing, Reading, Listening (each 0–90).
- 6 Enabling Skills: Grammar, Oral Fluency, Pronunciation, Spelling, Vocabulary, Written Discourse (each 0–90, diagnostic only).
- Test Reference (TRF) number — needed for visa applications.
How to Send Scores to Institutions
- Log in to your Pearson account → "View Score Reports".
- Click "Send Scores" next to the test.
- Search for institution by name + country.
- Confirm and pay if past your free 5 sends.
- Pearson transmits within 48 hours.
Sending to Visa Authorities
- Australian DHA: automatic via TRF — provide TRF on visa form.
- UK Home Office (UKVI): automatic via TRF.
- Canadian IRCC: input PTE Core test code on Express Entry profile.
- NZ Immigration: upload PDF score report with your application.
If You Hit Your Target — Submit ASAP
Don't wait. Visa applications and university deadlines move fast. The day your score arrives:
- Send to all relevant institutions.
- Update your visa form with the TRF.
- Submit your application that day or the next.
If You Didn't Hit Your Target
- Review the score report carefully. Look at section scores AND enabling skills. Often one section is dragging the overall down.
- Wait at least 7 days before booking a retake. You need time to identify the weakness and address it.
- Drill your weak section on ClearMyPTE for 1–2 weeks before booking again.
- Don't retake the same week with no change in approach — your score will be similar.
Score Review Request
You can request a manual review of Reading + Listening sections if you suspect a scoring error. Costs ~$80 USD. Speaking + Writing are NOT reviewable (AI-only, no manual recourse). Review takes 1–4 weeks; refund of fee only if score changes upward.
Multiple Score Reports
Each test you take generates a separate score report. You can choose which to send — institutions only see what you select. You don't have to disclose lower scores.
How Long is Your Score Valid?
- Standard: 2 years from test date.
- Australian skilled migration: 3 years for some visa subclasses.
See PTE Score Validity and Sending for details.
Practice on ClearMyPTE
If you need to retake, drill weak sections on ClearMyPTE until your predicted score is solidly above your target. Don't book until then.
