What to Bring to Your PTE Test

Just ONE Thing is Required: Your Passport
Pearson requires a valid passport as photo ID for entry to the test centre. No exceptions. Driver's licence, national ID card, voter ID — none are accepted for PTE Academic.
Passport Must Be:
- Original (not a photocopy or digital image).
- Valid on the test date (must not expire before).
- The exact passport you used when booking. Name and number must match.
- In good condition (laminate intact, photo clear).
What You CAN Bring (But Will Go Into a Locker)
- Phone, smartwatch, fitness tracker — switched off, in locker.
- Bag, wallet, keys.
- Water bottle (some centres allow it; check yours).
- Snacks for during the optional break.
- Glasses (you may wear these into the room).
What You CANNOT Bring Into the Test Room
- Phone, watch, smartwatch, fitness tracker.
- Bag, wallet, keys.
- Pens, pencils, notepads — the centre provides an erasable note booklet and marker.
- Calculator.
- Books, study materials.
- Food, water (the centre provides water at the desk in some cases).
- Hat, scarf, hood (unless religious headwear — declared in advance).
- Jacket — usually hung on the chair back, not worn during the test.
What the Centre Provides
- Headset with microphone (over-ear, noise-cancelling).
- Erasable note booklet + marker.
- Computer with the PTE test interface pre-loaded.
- Locker for your belongings (free).
Dress Code
Comfortable, layered clothing. Test rooms can be cold (air conditioning) or warm. Avoid hooded tops — easier to wear a thin sweater you can take on/off as needed.
Transit Tips
- Aim to arrive 30 minutes early. Late arrivals (15+ minutes after start) are denied entry with no refund.
- Use Google Maps to find the centre the day before — some are tucked away in office buildings.
- Eat a proper meal 1–2 hours before. PTE is mentally taxing.
If Your Passport Has an Issue
If your passport is damaged, expired, or you lost it after booking — reschedule immediately. Showing up without a valid passport = denied entry, no refund, no rebook within fee window.
