What is Highlight Correct Summary?

You hear a 30–90 second lecture, then choose which of 4 paragraph-length summaries best captures it. PTE Academic only.

Format & Timing

  • Audio: 30–90 seconds, plays once
  • Options: 4 written summaries
  • Time per question: ~2 minutes

Scoring

  • 1 point for correct choice. No negative marking.

Strategy

  1. Take notes on main idea + key points while the audio plays.
  2. After audio, scan the 4 summaries looking for one that matches both your topic AND your key points.
  3. Eliminate summaries that include details not in the audio — those are distractors.
  4. Eliminate summaries that capture only HALF the audio (e.g. only the introduction).

Distractor Patterns

  • Half-correct: right topic, wrong stance.
  • Detail-only: covers a small part of the audio.
  • Out of scope: mentions something the speaker didn't say.
  • Inverted: opposite of what the speaker meant.

Common Mistakes

  • Not taking notes — you forget the audio by the time you read all 4 summaries.
  • Picking based on opening words match — verify the WHOLE summary aligns.
  • Spending too long — eliminate fast and commit.
