Can I cancel my PTE score after taking it?
Can I cancel my PTE score after taking it?
No, you cannot cancel a PTE score after the test. Once you submit the test, Pearson processes it through their AI scoring engine and the result is automatically released to your Pearson account 24–48 hours later. There is no "void this attempt" button, unlike some standardised tests such as the GMAT.
The good news: your score remains private to you by default. Pearson does not automatically forward your score to any institution. You decide, on a per-institution basis, which scores to send and which to keep hidden.
So what happens if I bomb the test?
Nothing visible to anyone else. The score sits in your Pearson account. If your latest attempt is much lower than a previous attempt, simply send the older, higher score to your institution — they will never know the bad attempt happened. There is no "average" or aggregation across attempts.
Can I retake immediately if I am unhappy?
Yes — there is no cooling-off period beyond having to wait for the previous score to be released (typically 2–5 days). See our FAQ on how many times you can retake PTE.
