What's the Difference Between Practice and Mock Exam?
Practice Mode vs. Mock Exam
ClearMyPTE offers two distinct ways to prepare for the PTE Academic exam. Understanding the difference helps you use each mode effectively.
Practice Mode
- Focus: Individual question types — work on one type at a time.
- Attempts: Unlimited — practise as much as you want.
- Timing: Untimed — no countdown clock, take as long as you need.
- Feedback: Immediate — see your score right after submission.
- Purpose: Build skills, learn question formats, and improve weak areas.
Mock Exam
- Focus: Full-length test covering all four sections (Speaking, Writing, Reading, Listening).
- Attempts: Limited — based on your subscription plan.
- Timing: Timed sections — matching the real PTE exam format.
- Feedback: Comprehensive score report after completion (AI scoring may take a few moments).
- Purpose: Simulate real exam conditions and measure overall readiness.
Recommended Approach
Start with Practice Mode to familiarise yourself with all 22 question types and build foundational skills. Once you feel confident with the formats, move to Mock Exams to test your performance under timed conditions. After each mock exam, review your score report and return to Practice Mode to work on any weak areas identified.
This cycle of practice, test, review, and targeted practice is the most effective way to improve your PTE score consistently.
